To be effective, you must moisturize regularly.

Also, nothing you place on top of your skin will nourish it in the same way that a healthy, well-balanced diet can.

You should also be drinking lots and lots of water - either tap or mineral.

All moisturizers and creams will work more effectively if you dampen the skin slightly first, as the top dead layer of skin will absorb a small amount of water.

Regular exfoliating is important too, in order to remove cells that have been too long on the surface of your skin.

Your tougher, body skin could well withstand a vigorous, twice-weekly sloughing session with a loofah to encourage old skin to flake off, and to boost circulation through superficial skin vessels. So:

  • check your diet
  • drink lots of water
  • exfoliate your body 1-2 weekly

And regularly use one of these home-made, affordable body lotions/moisturizers ... your skin will look and feel wonderful.

The easiest and cheapest way of moisturizing your body is, after taking your bath or shower, to simply massage in olive oil or almond oil.

You'll need to wait a few minutes for the oil to be properly absorbed but, carried out regularly, you'll find the results spectacular.

Ingrediants

  • 1 cup almond/olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon lanolin
  • 1/2 oz grated beeswax
  • 2/3 cup rosewater
  • 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
  • 2 drops rose oil (optional)

Method

1. Mix together the almond/olive oil, lanolin and beeswax over a low heat until melted.
2. Set aside to cool.
3. Meanwhile, in a separate container, boil together the rosewater and aloe vera.
4. Slowly add oil mixture to rosewater mixture, whipping together with electric blender until creamy.
5. Stir in a couple of drops of rose oil.
6. Store in covered jar for up to one month.

Ingrediants

  • 1 part glycerine
  • 1 part freshly-pressed lemon juice
  • 1 part eau de cologne

Method

1. Pour all ingrediants into a bottle.
2. Shake well until fully mixed.
3. Massage into body.
4. Keep up to 3 weeks.
